Koyoshi Nakayoshi, the creator of “The Red Ranger Becomes An Adventurer in Another World,” more commonly known as “Isekai Red,” shared insights into the development of his manga in a radio show [1].

Nakayoshi was a longtime fan of tokusatsu shows, including Ultraman, Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider. Initially, he watched these shows for the fight scenes. It was around Kamen Rider Kuuga and Mirai Sentai Timeranger when he started to pay attention to the story. These shows were also the most influential tokusatsu shows for him.

Ideas Behind “Isekai Red”

Before debuting as a mangaka, he worked for 10 years as a part-timer and assistant. Sometimes, he wanted to quit, but his close friend who’s a manga writer, encouraged Nakayoshi not to give up. This event inspired him to write a story with themes of bonds.

Initially, Nakayoshi didn’t write’“Isekai Red’ as an isekai (alternate-world) story. The shift to an isekai setting came after the suggestion of his editor. He was hesitant initially, but after consulting with his mangaka friend and reading many isekai titles for his research, he finally turned his work into an isekai story.

Unlike the manga, which features the Kizuna Five in a brief flashback, the anime expands greatly upon lore. Nakayoshi worked with production staff to explore the team in-depth, including how flashback scenes are assigned to an episode number.

Voice Acting in Post-Production

Aside from his role in writing the manga, Nakayoshi also voiced various mob characters in every episode of the anime adaptation. This began when he visited the recording session for the adaptation, and the staff asked if he wanted to voice a mob character, which he did. The director eventually decided to make him a “regular cast” for the rest of the show.

Episode 12 of ‘The Red Ranger Becomes An Adventurer in Another World’ will be broadcast across multiple Japanese television networks, including AT-X, BS11, and Tokyo MX. Japanese viewers can access the episode through Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. The episode will be available exclusively on Crunchyroll’s streaming platform for audiences outside Japan [2].
