Red Ranger Isekai Episode 5 Recap and Thoughts
Last time, Lowji and Togo managed to settle their differences and were able to defeat Lord Loulugart, who was using a mana seed to exercise control over his town. However, the mana seed absorbed its host and grew in size, and is now heading towards the city.
Recap
Seeing the dangerous mana beast created by the mana seed, Grossa instructed her team to evacuate everyone in the city. Meanwhile, Red gets so excited that he can finally use his Maximum Kizuna Kaiser to defeat the giant mana beast, just like he did back in his world when mana beasts grow in size after being defeated. After all, his ideas of defeating Loulugart involve using the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser.
Lowji was shocked after being transported inside the Kizuna Kaiser’s cockpit. Teltina commented on how Lowji’s bond was formed now that he could join them inside. Red was happy that Lowji could now join them aboard the Kizuna Kaiser. Lowji’s presence also meant an increase in Bond Energy, which the mech needed to combat the giant mana beast. He used the energy to take the mana beast high up enough to destroy it safely.
Yhidra, Lowji, and Teltina were amazed by the view from the cockpit as Maximum Kizuna Kaiser flew past the clouds into space. They were shocked to hear that the legends about the land of angels above the clouds were all lies. Way to go, Togo! You managed to break religious beliefs!
Now that the mana beast is in space, Red summoned the Great Bond Sword and asked Lowji to control the sword. Thankful for the view in space, Lowji obliged and destroyed the mana beast with Brave Ray Kizuna Slash.
To prevent the mana seed from going berserk again, Teltina used her mana beast, Vrykolakas, to swallow the mana seed from Loulugart. The silver wolf also happens to be gentle and cuddly, which makes Togo and Yhidra fall in love as they cuddle it. Additionally, we learn that Vrykolakas was created from the desire to save mana seed hosts from death.
Teltina kept her mana beast a secret from Yhidra and Togo to prevent them from worrying and protect its details from the person distributing mana seeds. However, the distributor of mana seeds had been eavesdropping on their conversation.
The monster introduced himself as Abudabi, a royal demon and a child of the Demon Queen. Abudabi and their fellow demons aim to resurrect the Demon Queen and wreak havoc on the world. They try to eliminate the protagonists who try to mess with their mana seeds. Teltina became furious with Abudabi for distributing the mana seeds, clearly holding a grudge as she remembered how her mother was killed by one of those seeds. Abudabi, however, showed no concern; they planned to cultivate mana seeds and fill the world with negative mana to bring their mother back to life.
Abudabi attacked Teltina to stop her from destroying mana seeds. Togo and Lowji went to the rescue and defended Teltina. Abudabi was shocked that Togo and Lowji weren’t worn out from their previous battle. Togo transforms into Kizuna Red, pushing himself beyond his limits to protect his friends. Red tried to jump high to attack the floating Abudabi, but they managed to evade his attack.
Abudabi summoned more mana beasts to help him defeat the party. Human bodies are sticking out as the mana beasts absorb them. Yhidra was shocked to see Grossa inside one of the mana beasts. As it turns out, the resistance members have used mana seeds to give them the power to save their town. Unfortunately, these mana seeds got berserk immediately after planting, engulfing their hosts’ bodies inside them.
Red used his Cooperation Calibur to strike a hit against Abudabi, but they managed to block it with his weapon, which resembles a pickaxe with teeth as its blades. Seeing that Red had trouble fighting Abudabi, Teltina requested Lowji to aid him instead of defending her. She was determined to eliminate Abudabi at any cost. As Lowji joins the battle, Abudabi uses Junk Smile, transforming his weapon into a long-ranged one with the teeth as smaller blades.
Meanwhile, Yhidra uses Ifrit Blow to defeat the mana beasts. Teltina then used Vrykolakas to devour mana seeds from their hosts. However, she absorbed too much mana, overwhelming her body. Yhidra thought of using Lowji’s Holy Sword to absorb excess mana. However, Teltina refused as it might change the tide of the battle in Abudabi’s favor.
In the heat of the battle, Abudabi laughed at human bonds as they cited how his mana seeds overwhelmed their hosts with the desire to protect their city. It reminds me of how the Yummies in Kamen Rider OOO exploit their hosts’ desires, allowing them to get stronger as they fulfill their hosts’ wishes. They also cite how the bonds of the Demon Queens’ children are united with their wish to reunite with their mother. Red stopped his attack momentarily, reminding him of how some of the Relationship Enders also have bonds. Lowji asked Red to snap out of it and stop listening to Abudabi’s words. However, Red is still intent on defeating them as their bonds threaten other people’s bonds.
Red tried to deliver a Burning Kizuna Punch boosted by his Turbo Huddle. However, it was blocked by Abudabi’s hands as they surrounded him and Lowji. Abudabi used Burst of Laughter to detonate his hands, dealing heavy damage to Red and Lowji. Abudabi tried to finish Red with Big Smile, a sunflower-like weapon that could detonate itself, as he noticed that Red came from another world. They didn’t want to repeat their mistake of letting an otherworldly person live. Lowji managed to push Red out of the way as the powerful explosion knocked him out.
Red was shocked to see Lowji defend him. While he was still in denial about the bond they recently formed, it’s great to see him redeem himself from his mistakes in the previous episode. However, this awakened Red’s fear of losing people, manifested through a dark aura surrounding him. Overwhelmed with anger, Red managed to land a punch on Abudabi.
Before Abudabi could counterattack, the Royal Scepter used her magic based on Cthulu on the mana beasts, gripping them with tentacles. The Royal Scepter, Shau’ha Shemyazal, insulted Yhidra, noting how she couldn’t handle the mana beasts. As the fight becomes too chaotic due to Shau’ha’s interference, Abudabi flees the scene. Shau’ha and Red try to stop him, but it is too late.
As Teltina used the Holy Sword to absorb the excess mana in her body, Lowji knelt and apologized for leaving her side. Teltina asked him not to blame himself as she ordered him to help Red. Grossa was thankful for saving them and their city. Yhidra continued apologizing for her town’s destruction caused by the team’s lack of strength. Grossa countered that it was their fault for being desperate for more power, assuring her that she and her team would try their best to restore their city to normal so they would see a bustling Akalina when they return to visit.
Yhidra noticed that Togo was quiet after Abudabi left. He was thinking about Abudabi’s last words and how they had fought otherworlders. Yhidra told him about the rumors that the Hero who defeated the Demon Queen came from another world. Red was highly interested in what happened to the Hero and whether they managed to return home. However, there were no records about what happened to him after he defeated the Demon Queen.
Shau’ha interrupted their conversation and took them to the Sorcery Tower to treat Princess Teltina and report the mana seed incident. The excess mana caused Teltina’s mana seed to swell and bind her. Thus, Shau’ha used her transportation magic to bring them to Sorcery Tower.
Final Thoughts
I was amazed by how much content they packed into this episode while keeping it interesting. It also helped that they didn’t include a cliffhanger and instead concluded with Abudabi leaving Akalina.
I love how Togo unintentionally revealed their religion’s lies by showing that there’s only space above the clouds. It’s also cool to see how the writers reinforced the bond between Togo and Lowji by allowing the latter to wield the sword and protect Togo by blocking the attack meant for him. This episode shows how Lowji and Togo can now fight together as a team.
I was also shocked to learn that Togo has a darker personality, suppressed by his energetic persona. This personality was formed from the fear of losing his friends; he would do everything to protect them. I’m interested in seeing more of this dark personality and possibly a new form as well.
Finally, I’m so excited about Shau’ha’s introduction. Considering their past, I can’t wait to see how Yhidra and Teltina interact, as Yhidra’s father was the former Royal Scepter!
