Kamen Rider Gavv Episode 24 Recap and Thoughts
In the last episode, Shoma recounted how Hanto’s mom was killed after being captured. Overwhelmed by sadness, Hanto left Shoma for now, as he needed time to process his emotions. After Hanto’s departure, Bitter Gavv continued to cause chaos in the city, which prompted Shoma and Lakia to deal with him. However, while saving an injured civilian, Bitter Gavv managed to flee the scene. This prompted Shoma, who transformed into Kamen Rider Gavv, to use his Vrocan Buggy to chase after him.
Recap
Gavv caught up with his evil clone, Bitter Gavv, when they encountered a crane blocking their way. Thanks to Vrocanbuggy Spicy’s flexibility, Bitter Gavv could easily go underneath the crane. The two riders then scaled a wall while firing blasts at each other through their vehicles.
Bitter Gavv jumped off his buggy to fight Gavv from the ground. The buggy transformed into Vrocangatling Spicy, which, unlike his regular counterpart, could be used by Bitter Gavv in his base form. He used his giant weapon to fire blasts at Gavv, eventually undoing his transformation.
Seeing Shoma lying down on the ground, Bitter Gavv escaped the scene. Sachika managed to find Shoma and ran towards him as she got worried about his safety.
As Shoma rested, Sachika remembered how her conversation with Hanto went when he spotted the monster in the city. Hanto instructed her to hide the fact that he had given her information about Bitter Gavv, as he was going after his old friend Kataro. Sachika realized that Hanto was trying to chase another Granute, and he was the chocolate Kamen Rider, which shocked Hanto. She told him that Shoma didn’t tell her about his identity but realized how he was the other Rider instead.
Knowing this, Sachika understood that Shoma’s mental baggage stemmed from his unresolved issues with Hanto.
When dusk arrived, Hanto visited a Granute lair that his friend Kataro reported. Kataro told Hanto that he was going to return his uniform from his workplace when he spotted a monster. As Hanto entered the lair, Kataro laughed as if it was trap set for Hanto.
At dusk, Hanto went to an abandoned building where Kataro spotted monsters. Kataro claimed he spotted the monster while returning his work uniform. As Hanto entered, Kataro’s suspicious laughter revealed it was likely a trap.
As Hanto ventured deeper into the building, he noticed octopus pots scattered around the room. These pots fired black ink at Hanto, causing him to fall down due to their weight.
Kataro and the server from the previous episode then appeared before him. Kataro explained that the server sought revenge because of Hanto’s articles. After receiving the money, Kataro walked away happily, but not before getting pressed and turned into a Dark Treat ingredient.
The server, Granute Smeeal, removed his human disguise and transformed into a Granute as he planned to enact revenge after Hanto killed his buddy Granute Otake in Episode 6. Hanto tried to transform, but the Granute shot ink at his Valenbuster, preventing him from changing into his Rider form.
Lakia went to Dente’s hideout in the middle of the night to kill him for creating the Dark Treats that got his brother killed. Dente sat down and accepted his fate. He explained to Lakia how he reflected on his past actions after seeing Shoma grow up and start to fight against his siblings. Dente realized that had he stood up against his brother, his company would produce sweets that made Granutes happy instead of bringing misery. He also asked Lakia to support Shoma in his place.
Seeing how remorseful Dente was, he undid his transformation and left. Before leaving, Dente gave him a Gavvphone for contact purposes.
Meanwhile, a Bitter Gavv clone wandered around the city and noticed that there were no people in sight. As he got bored, he transformed into his Rider form and started wrecking the place, hoping that someone would show up.
Shoma learned about Bitter Gavv’s attack from his gochizos and left Hapipare to fight him. Sachika tried to stop him, warning him about his condition. Shoma admitted he feared losing everything he cared about and left anyway. Worried about his safety, Sachika followed him.
Meanwhile, Hanto was beaten up by Granute Smeeal as he could not transform into Kamen Rider Valen. Seeing that Hanto couldn’t transform, the Chocold gochizo jumped on the Valenbuster to let him transform into his new form: Kamen Rider Valen Chocold form.
In his new form, Hanto managed to fire a powerful shot strong enough to destroy Granute Smeeal’s tentacles. Noticing his newfound power, Hanto thanked Suga for saving him and continued to fight the monster.
Meanwhile, Bitter Gavv got bored as no one was there to play with him. That boredom wouldn’t last for long, though, as Shoma showed up and challenged him to a fight. Bitter Gavv accepted the challenge as he was itching to fight somebody. Despite his injuries, Shoma transformed into Kamen Rider Gavv and proceeded to fight his evil clone.
As he examined the snacks brought by Dente, Lakia talked with his Dopudding gochizo about Shoma’s relationship with his granduncle Dente. He noticed that Shoma didn’t give in to his anger but instead turned him into a valuable ally in fighting against his family. He then noticed a Gurucan gochizo trying to inform him about Shoma’s situation.
Back to the fight, Shoma was having trouble fighting Bitter Gavv. Sachika arrived at the scene and prepared to fight against Bitter Gavv using her Japanese handsaw.
However, Lakia stopped him and challenged the evil clone to a fight. He also told Shoma to call him when there’s trouble.
Meanwhile, Valen managed to dominate his fight against Granute Smeeal. Thanks to his newfound powers, his kicks and shots greatly damaged the Granute. Then, Valen hit the Granute’s head against a wall and activated his finisher, killing him.
While Vlam and Bitter Gavv were fighting, Shoma tried to transform again when Sachika tried to stop him. Sachika noticed that Shoma lacked energy, so she went to the closest ice cream stand and bought some ice cream for Shoma to eat. As Shoma ate the ice cream, he remembered how his mom wanted to give him ice cream when he got sick. This memory, combined with the joy Shoma experienced while savoring the ice cream, fueled his ability to create a new minion—the Blizzardsorbei gochizo.
With this new gochizo, Shoma was able to transform into his Blizzardsorbet form. In this form, he could create icy platforms and blow icy winds. Finally, Gavv was able to fight toe-to-toe against his clone. Lakia, amazed at Shoma’s new form, detransformed as he watched them fight.
Gavv then spun his gochizo, allowing him to spawn more gochizos riding Gochi Speeders, which are tiny vehicles his gochizos can ride. The gochizos then ride along the icy rink, causing Bitter Gavv to stumble and fall.
Finally, Gavv activated his Ice Illusion finisher, launching frozen ice cream missiles toward his evil clone and killing him. Seeing Shoma win the fight, Sachika ran toward him and celebrated his win. However, his new gochizo melted, showing its drawback of being a limited-use gochizo.
Shoma also took the opportunity to thank Lakia for his help. Lakia felt awkward by this and noted that Hapipare was not calming as it was a stark contrast from his Granute world. Sachika didn’t like the remark and punched him in the gut. Lakia was shocked that Sachika wasn’t scared, but she reassured him that he’s in Shoma’s side so she wasn’t worried. She also called him Lakian, which he wasn’t used to hearing.
As Shoma looked at his new friends, he smiled, knowing that he had people looking out for him.
Final Thoughts
To be honest, I would have preferred if the Blizzardsorbet and Chocold forms had not debuted together in the same episode. It made the episode too clunky as we moved back and forth between Shoma and Hanto. It didn’t even flesh out Granute Smeeal’s motivations and plans properly.
Aside from that, I loved the Blizzardsorbet form introduced in this episode. It’s an ice-based upgrade form, and it looks so good! I also love its abilities, including the “gambling” aspect! Sadly, Valen got the shorter end of the stick with the “stickers” used to turn Valen’s base form into Chocold form. It would be much better if the suit were recolored to make it black instead of the stickers.
I love how Sachika continues to be the best girl in this episode, trying to fight Bitter Gavv as Shoma had trouble fighting him. While she didn’t land any hits, her effort is remarkable. I hope that she’ll be a Kamen Rider someday.
Finally, Lakia was able to have some character development as he didn’t let his grudge against Dente took over and instead heard him out, which made me appreciate him as a character. I can’t wait to see him develop now that he can visit Hapipare.
Overall, this episode has some flaws, but it has remained solid so far. I can’t wait to see next week’s episode!
