Kamen Rider Gavv Episode 27 Recap and Thoughts

Page content

Last episode, Lakia has successfully stopped Granute Le Beet from exploiting Kouji’s channel to abduct more victims for Dark Treats. He also grew to enjoy pudding, which was the first time he ate human snacks. Meanwhile, Hanto’s condition deteriorated because of the Chocold gochizo’s side effects. His attempt to ask Suga for help was interrupted by a shocking sight: Bitter Gavvs speaking with Suga.

Recap

Hanto found the Bitter Gavv clones sharing their new Gochizo with Suga — the Breacookie Gochizo. Though the clones called him “dad,” Suga corrected them, stating he wasn’t their father.

When he saw Hanto, Suga berated the clones for their trip to the lab, a secret he had been keeping from Hanto regarding their creation. He then scolded Hanto for continuing to use the Chocold gochizo, recommending the Breacookie gochizo as an alternative.

Hanto confronted the mad scientist Suga about the Bitter Gavv clones, asking why he let them attack humans when he thought he’s going after Granutes. Suga explained to Hanto that they had a common goal: Hanto wanted to destroy the Granutes, while Suga aimed to create someone who could defeat them. He tried to comfort Hanto, promising to enhance his strength to fight against Granutes.

Hanto, feeling betrayed after finding Suga’s Bitter Gavvs, exited Suga’s lab.

Suga got annoyed, as he didn’t want his lab rat to leave him.

The next day, Shoma and Sachika went out to help someone move out. Shoma found Hanto lying on the ground, and the Sachika tried to call an ambulance to rescue him. However, it is not possible because of the Granute organ inside of him. Thus, Shoma tried to bring him to Suga.

Hanto insisted that he didn’t want them to bring him to Suga as he’s dangerous.

Shoma then asked Sachika to accompany him to his granduncle Dente as he’s a Granute and might have the knowledge to help his friend.

As Dente examined Hanto’s body, Sachika admitted she was a little afraid of Dente, but reassured Shoma she would be fine.

Shoma then tried to find the Chocodon gochizo he gave Hanto to ask what happened to Hanto, however, he didn’t find them.

Shoma searched for the Chocodon gochizo he’d given Hanto to find out what happened, but was unsuccessful. Shortly after, Dente saw a Chocold gochizo, however, it tried to escape.

Through deep concentration, Sachika was able to capture the dark chocolate gochizo. However, Shoma’s attempts to question the gochizo about the cause of Hanto’s condition proved fruitless, as did his efforts to use the Gavv Phone to learn more.

Realizing that the gochizo could be suspicious, Sachika trapped it in a jar. Before heading to Suga’s lab to investigate, Shoma asked Dente to find out more information about the gochizo.

Meanwhile, Suga looked at the computer monitor showing his plans of creating a creature with codename K. Shoma arrived soon after, demanding answers about the Chocold gochizo and Hanto’s pain. Suga explained to Shoma his desire to strengthen Hanto, but he expressing sadness at Hanto’s sudden cowardice.

He commanded a Bitter Gavv clone to restrain Shoma, intending to retrieve Hanto by holding Shoma hostage.

Back at Dente’s home, Hanto woke up and got scared when he saw a Granute in front of him. Sachika told him to stop, reassuring him that Dente took care of him when he got sick.

Introducing himself as Shoma’s grandfather, Dente inquired about Hanto’s condition. Hanto, noticing his pain had vanished, thanked Dente for taking care of him. Sachika then explained to Hanto that Shoma brought him to his granduncle.

Responding to an inquiry about Hanto’s health, Dente reported observing a Granute organ within him. Dente explained the organ helped him to transform into Kamen Rider Valen. However, he cautioned that the Chocold gochizo overstimulated the organ, causing him heart pain. Therefore, Dente advised Hanto against transforming to expedite his recovery.

Hanto, feeling powerless when he couldn’t transform anymore, ordered Dente to fix his condition. Dente told Hanto that resting is his only option, unless if he removed the organ. However, Hanto didn’t like the suggestion as he wanted to have the power to stop Stomach Inc. from claiming more victims.

Hanto attempted to seize Dente’s Chocold gochizo, but Sachika intervened, suggesting he use Shoma’s gochizos instead if he wished to continue fighting. She also informed him that Shoma had gone to Suga’s place, despite the inherent danger.

Concerned for Shoma’s well-being, Hanto contacted Suga after learning what had happened. Suga responded by demanding Hanto meet him in a parking lot if he wanted to see his friend, adding that he wanted to show Hanto something.

Sachika asked Hanto what happened after the call. Hanto explained Suga was behind the Bitter Gavv clones, which explained Valen’s fighting prowess.

Noticing Hanto’s concern for Shoma, Sachika explained Shoma was unwell to the point where he could only eat ice cream. She explained that Shoma’s issue stemmed from mental health concerns.

Hanto, realizing he had caused Shoma’s emotional distress, went to Suga’s lab to save his friend.

Once Hanto was gone, Sachika phoned Lakia, telling him that Shoma’s in trouble. At her request, Lakia agreed to check on Shoma in the parking lot.

Dente then noticed Sachika was calling Lakia and asked him to come by his home first.

When Hanto arrived at the parking lot, Suga apologized for calling him despite his current health condition. Hanto expressed his anger at what he did to Shoma. Suga then requested Hanto to calm down and ordered the Bitter Gavv clone to release Shoma.

Hanto was shocked that Suga let go of Shoma so easily. The mad scientist explained why he wanted Hanto to come — he wanted to show off an upgraded version of his Valenbuster, the Bake Magnum, along with a Breacookie gochizo that Bitter Gavv made.

Suga then set the Breacookie gochizo in the Bake Magnum and transformed into Kamen Rider Bake.

Hanto was shocked to see Suga’s transformation and asks if he modified himself as well. Suga confirmed Hanto’s suspicion, thanking him for being a lab rat, as it reduced the risk of the surgery. Suga then bragged about how his new system could make Hanto way stronger than Shoma.

The scientist then challenged Shoma to prove his point. Shoma initially hesitated to fight a human opponent. However, he was forced to transform into his base Poppingummy form as Suga attacked him.

Upon reaching Dente’s home, Lakia entrusted Dente with his Vramstum Gear and gochizos. Since they were created by Nyelv, Dente was confident he can replicate them to provide a transformation belt and gochizo that Hanto can safely use.

Kamen Rider Bake’s immense power forced Shoma, transformed as Kamen Rider Gavv, to take refuge behind a car. Although disappointed by Gavv hiding, Bake reacted calmly by shooting under the car where Shoma had concealed himself.

While he got hit by the Bake Magnum, Gavv skillfully dodged most of Bake’s gunshots. Realizing that he didn’t deal enough damage, Bake hurled a car towards Gavv. The car obscured Gavv’s vision, allowing Bake to land a direct hit with his Baking Full Blast.

Bake then attacked Gavv with explosive cookie kanjis. Although Gavv evaded two, the third exploding kanji struck him, causing damage.

Suga relentlessly continued his attack on Shoma. However, he was quite disappointed that he did not change forms at all during the fight, as he could not show off the extent of his new power.

As the fight continued, Shoma tried his best to block most of Suga’s attacks by grabbing his leg or using his Gavvgablade, but to no avail. Eventually, Suga stopped his attack, as he was disappointed by Shoma’s performance.

Shoma said he wouldn’t fight at his peak while investigating Suga’s end goal. It dawned on Suga that Shoma’s hesitation to fight was due to him being human, and not a Granute. Suga chuckled at his desire to protect humans, stating that grand ambitions cannot be achieved without sacrifices.

Suga calmly tallied the number of humans sacrificed, around eight, before finding his perfect test subject. Hanto and Shoma watched in shock, realizing that he sacrificed humans for his goal.

Suga continued to explain that Hanto’s transformation and the Bitter Gavv clones are fruits of his twenty years of research.

When asked about his cruelty, Suga thanked those he had experimented on, even those he had used as bait.

Hanto was stunned, realizing that his mentor, Soji, was killed to give him a reason to work with Suga.

Suga was surprised by Hanto’s obliviousness to his role in Soji’s death. “To be fair,” Suga explained, “Nyelv was ordered to kill him after we spoke.” He also said that after finding the perfect test subject, Hanto, he enlisted Nyelv’s help to get him to agree to take part in the experiments.

Following the shocking revelation, Suga calmly apologized to the duo before ordering Bitter Gavv to take Hanto to his lab. However, Shoma swiftly rescued the severely shocked Hanto, and they both left Suga and Bitter Gavv behind.

Suga then undoes his transformation, noticing that his hand got burned after utilizing Bake’s power. “I’m still going to need my dear Hanto.”

Final Thoughts

Betrayal hurts more when done by a person close to you. In Hanto’s case, it was through a scientist whom he thought could be trusted to accomplish his goal of destroying Stomach Inc. Suga, however, had further ambitions: using Bitter Gavv clones to potentially create a code K being that might exceed human capabilities. But the greatest betrayal has to be when Hanto realized that Soji was killed to give him a reason to let Suga implant a Granute organ in his body. Hanto realized that Suga might not have his best interests at heart, considering the fact that he developed the Chocold gochizo that greatly strained his heart.

Hanto’s actor, Yusuke Hino, continued to perform well in his acting. I couldn’t help but get emotional seeing that Suga, the one who gave him power to fight Granutes, was also responsible for killing his mentor. It also gives an important lesson to Hanto that humans can also be truly evil. This also highlights how people can exploit your vulnerabilities to manipulate you into doing things against your will. Those who have fallen prey to such individuals bear no responsibility; these individuals have taken advantage of their weaknesses.

Sachika’s role in helping Shoma and Hanto reconcile was important as she explained why Shoma still continued to help Hanto, as well as going to Suga’s lab despite the potential danger. She also tried to provide backup for Shoma when she called Lakia to look for him. To be honest, I really loved Sachika’s role in this episode. She continues to be the best girl and the heart that holds the Riders together.

Finally, Kamen Rider Bake’s debut is so hype! I really love his calm and collected fighting style. Although showy like Lakia, he maintains a calm demeanor while he toys with his opponent. I also enjoyed his battle theme. It evokes a psychotic feeling, similar to his personal theme, while evoking the intensity of a battle theme. I couldn’t help but replay the scene a couple of times due to how good it is.

Overall, this was a pretty great episode! I look forward to Hanto’s revenge for his mentor and the complete reconciliation between him and Shoma.
